Markings/codes on pistons??

Post by Paul R »

Hi,

While tinkering with my engine last night, I cleaned some carbon deposits off of the pistons and noticed that in the center of them, there is a marking.

The pistons in cylinder 1, 2 and 4 have the mark '2C', the piston in cylinder 3 has the mark '1C'.

Can someone tell me what these mean?

Cheers,

Paul.

They're just original markings refering to the size of the pistons fitted to the bore. Toyota produce pistons to a very small tolerance to get the pistons as close to design specifications as engineeringly possible.

Hi,

OK, do I need to worry about these sizes when getting the cylinder over-bored for my new JE 86.5mm pistons?

Cheers,

Paul.

Not a problem - just make sure the machine shop are in the understanding that the clearances of the forged pistons need to be considered due to their higher expansion / contraction rates

Cool.

I'll take the instructions in that come with the pistons and point out the clearances :)
