Widest tyre on a 7" rim

Post by MegatronUK »

What's the maximum tyre width you can get on a 7" wide rim?

Alternatively, what will be the best tyre size combo for my 7x15 wheels when the beast gets on the road? Obvously I don't want to go too wide at the front to spoil the handling - I want to keep the car looking pretty much stock.

Would 205/50x15 front, and 215/40x15 rear work well?

Is that on a 7" or 7.5"? My dads ST185 is 205/50x15 and that looks a bit 'tall' to me, 225 width on a 50 profile would be even taller wouldn't it?

Just read that the rolling radius on a 215/45x15 is precisely the same as 195/50x15. I'll probably go with that on the back - I don't want a tyre with a high sidwall to spoil the look of the car. Toyo Proxes come in that size so it should be ok.
