[Mk2 NA] Cambelt changed - loss of power!

Post by kieran_sly »

I recently had the cambelt changed on my Mk2 N/A by a local garage. Now when I accelerate there is definately a lack of power compared to before it was changed. Not only that but when I apply the gas it seems to judder a bit and then pick up all of a sudden. Is it possible something is slipping or do I just need to give the new belt a chance to bed in?

Also, not sure if its related but the mechanic took off the front pulley as it was rusted and said it was redundant anyway as it normally drives the A/C or Power steering, of which I have neither.

Any help appreciated. Do I need to take it back to the garage or not?

Yep, I'd say the timing belt has been installed a tooth or so out. They'll need to do it all over again, this time, getting it right..
