Mk1a radio cassette

Post by alfiembra »

I have a 1985 mk1a, fitted with the original push button radio cassette. It's really knackered and I want to upgrade but nothing outrageous just a basic radio cassete or single play CD player. The existing unit has a single plug fitting the car has two dash speakers and the underseat sub woofer. Since I know SFA about electrics does anyone know where I can get an ISO adapter plug to make it as easy a job as possible for me.

Halfords?

They had one for the mk1b which seems to be working fine for me and my blaupunkt.

The MK1A doesn't use a standard Toyota harness but its not too hard to work out what's what with a continuity tester. Mine had a little pigtail connector between the socket attached to the car and the original stereo so I snipped off the plug at the stereo end and attached a standard ISO socket.

I'll have a look at the colours next time I'm in there if you like. I've got a bluetooth hands-free that I need to get around to installing so I'll be popping the stereo back out sometime soonish.

Thanks, appreciate any help and advise as I'm pretty clueless with electrics.
