Front Ball Joints

Post by thecuban »

Half way through bush and ball joint replacements I have found a spacer between the offside front ball joint and the hub but not one on the nearside! This must be wrong but it looks as if mine was built that way. I am thinking of putting all back together the same way. Has anyone else come across this - and should I get a couple of new spacers from Mr T to be on the safe side?

Thanks

David

Have never seen nor heard of such things from MrT and they are not listed.

I have seen roll centre adjusters in the form of spacers, but you would use oner per side.

Bin it.

i`ve seen this on a couple of mk1s.its not a genuine part as far as i know. my theory is a joint near to original has been used and the spacer is to bring it up to the correct height.strange but the ones i`ve seen are also only on one side, the drivers.i`d be interested in anyone who knows more.

I've seen these on a few Mk1 ones, I suspect its a suspension tweak by Toyota. When you use roll centre adjusters they come with one pair 5mm thicker than the other pair so that the spacer can be discarded. I expect that because of the age of Mk1's (and because of the muppets who have worked on them in the past) many cars have had the spacers lost/discarded.

Thanks for the replies. I have had a look at the Haynes manual and it does show spacers on both sides. A bit of a mystery then!
