Carbon fibre bonnets. Gauging interest

Just been contacted by a mate regarding Carbon fibre bonnets.

Just gauging interest at the minute.

Costs likely to be £300 if there are 5 people. (is this good?)

I've asked for examples of ones he's done before to see what quality is like.

Will also find out if they are complete CF or done over a FG skeleton.

Would be standard style, with OE fitment. With or without washer jets I would imagine.

yeah it will be an exact replacement for the bonnet.

I would also be up for it funds allowing, boonet and boot would be ace and it would cut down on how much body work needs respraying in the future

I would love the vented one though - would it be possible? It will match the front wings I am making for the car.

The boots of course need to be strong enough to resist a heavy spoiler and the drag it produces at speed, but a bonnet and boot combination would be ace and a deal sealer.

I'd be supplying my OE one for a template. But maybe after thats moulded I could hack some vents into it and do another mould...

I'll see if I can get over there this weekend to have a chat with the guy.

Can you find out the make though. The C Wings I had on my old subaru and it was absolute sh*te. Weight was stupidly heavy (ok some are wet lay and just have a carbon fibre laid over the top of them) but 6 months later, the bonnet was in very very bad condition. Changed to another carbon bonnet and after 18 months still looked like new.

This is unbranded. I'm yet to see the quality of the work, but when I do I'll be sure to report back

I'm not interested as my readies need to go on the 2's upkeep but i can understand why a carbon fibre bonnet would be a good thing. I can't believe how heavy the standard bonnets are, the must have some structural purpose; they add half the weight to the 2!!!

A bonnet would be good, but a boot better. Take the weight away where it's needed. No point dialing even more understeer into these things with a lighter front without working on the rear.
