Can't Get AM Reception ?

I had to take out my electric aerial and have installed a fixed aerial. The fm reception is fine but i cannot get any am reception at all. should i do anything with the now redundant electric aerial connector? does anyone have any ideas. i dont listen to am much but i want it to work.

Do you have 2 fine black lines running down your windscreen..? If yes then this is your AM feed and should imagine (as my MkII doesn't have this set-up) that you'd need to find out which wires are associated with it and naturally connect to your new aerial.

thanks for your reply. i do not have the two lines on my windscreen that you mention. i just cannot get am to work.
