Undersealing Imports

Speaking to a dealer and I asked if the MR2 I was looking at has been undersealed, as I understand alot of imports need this to be done.

Has your imported MR2 been undersealed? Is undersealing an MR2 even required?

Depends if it one of those rot box Mk1's !!

The mk2's do undergo a good coating along the lower half and joints, there is sealant there. The area that likely to start to rust is the cills where its been jacked up .. but other than that, these galvanised bodied MR2's are pretty damn good.

Mines 11 year old now with only a small blister that appeared some 4 years back on the a pillar !

Nah I've had 4 MR2's alltogether, JJ's right about the jack points, the last three mk2's I had were all spotless apart from the first one, the dreaded Aw11 - what a rotbox that was!

Yeah biz is ok, bit quiet this time of year mind, so hanging onto my job at nissan for the time being.

aa man said they have enough under the mk2 so as not to worry about it.

looked at mine recently and its still spotless, mot will soon let you know if you needed to do it

Its not needed on the MK2.

Mine's not been undersealed, and its had 6 winters on Salty UK roads and the only thing that really suffers are the small bolts that hold the plastic under-trays on - they're a bu88er to drill out and re-tap too if you're doing a proper job ..

I would always underseal a car if it hasn't been done, can't see the point in not for the price and effort it costs. I actually want my car to last...

I asked about this at MOT time and was told it wasnt needed on my car (rev3 tubby) due to the amount of plastic sheeting underneath etc.

The only problem with undersealing an older car is the chance of sealing moisture in. I had mine waxoiled though as i want it to last to.
