Front lights on a Turbo..Questions

Post by ioa1980 »

Hello,

I've just recently bought an mk2 rev2 turbo.

The guy who I bought it from, had a veilside front bumper put on.

- he ripped out the electrics for the horn (now got one in), but also I have no sidelights what-so-ever (MOT failure).

This may sound like a stupid question to you lot but, do the pop-up headlights have a sidelight feature inbuilt?

I can't check, the car is in the garage and I phoned them to check for me(haven't called back again).

Am I right in saying, that, the original bumper had sidelights, but in Japan they are orange, so to make them legal here you have to change the tint to clear?

If this is true, what options do I have apart from buying 'stick-on' sidelights.

Any help would be appreciated, Cheers.

Chris. :)

The sidelights are in the front bumper not the headlights. And yes they are orange when imported. Like this -

You can get crystal front indicators for the std bumper -

Im pretty sure that most people who fit veilside front bumpers normally go for crystal supra sidlights/indicator units. My orange sidelights have passed 3 MOTs now since my car has been in the UK.

I have the veilside bumper on the front.

The indicators I have work ok, they seem to look like the ones you mentioned above, as they are very similar to those on other people's veilside bumbers.

Do these indicators have a sidelight function too?

Hi...I have the same problem...Veilside kit about to get fitted and need to figure out the front lights! Do you think these ones will fit ok?

Also...am I able to fit the lovely steerable fogs that are on my car, any suggestions?

the orange sides do pass a mot as it states that they have to give out a white or orange light....

i had to drill little holes in my crystal lights for the standard side light bulbs to fit in and then a little dot of super glue on the bulb holder just to make sure they don't fall out...

Ive seen new cars (ie discoverys) with orange side lights. Ive taken my car through 2 MOTs with its original jap orange side lights on and its passed. The tester has mentioned to me that they should be white lights  . Its hardly a safety critical failure though.
