LED dashboard lights

Any one know where i can get LED light for my dashboard?

Hi david I tried to use led's to illuminte the dials in my mr2 but the problem is with leds although they are very bright they tend to be focused into a beam rather than dispersed light in the end i came to the conclusion it was best to fit el dials if you are interested try www.speedhut.com they have MR2 dial lay outs and you can customise the font colours etc however i did use led's in my heater control unit, electric window switch's and rings around the ignition switch and lighter.
the best source that i have found for the led's are on ebay ubiditnow is one of the sellers and photoelektric is the other i have used both of these people they are the cheepest source of led's i could find
3mm led required for indication lighting on the heater control
5mm led required for general illumination in place of bulbs
remember you require a series resistor for each led 470 ohm's or so good luck : Mike

I've fitted some frosted glass LED bulbs into the dash.
This gives a more diffuse light output which lights up the dash better.

I purchased mine, in blue, from www.ultraleds.co.uk (under £2 each if I remember correctly)

BTW you will need 5 of type 501 fitment.

Did you replace the ones in the heater controls and key surround? How many do you recon you need in total?

Because I wasn't too sure on how they would look I only did the main dash.
The ones for the heater / key etc. are 194 fitment (aka 158 or 168 depending on the wattage), though I can't remember off hand how many are needed.
I do remember there is one in the lock, one in the cigerette lighter and at least two ( possibly four?) in the aircon unit.

Changing the lights in the heater control andwindow switch is not an easy job and thats even if you are good at soldering taking the electric window switch apart is quiet tricky if you decide to venture this far take care as there are lots of loose bits inside. To change the led's in the heater control to blue from green you require 3mm leds to replace the existing ones you will require a soldering iron and a desoldering tool and about three hours spare.

i have done the heater control youi just need some leds that run off 12v and fix them into place of the notmal bulbs. i'll get a pic for the forum

Got some red Wide angle LED's the other day, planning on fitting them at the week end. then progressing onto the heater etc untill every thing matches nicely.

i'll post how i get on.

I'd be interested to hear about the results.
I used frosted on recomendation from the supplier, though I'm sure it may have had something to do with him not having wide angled ones in

They look amazing! good even light spread. Infact better that the normal bulbs id say.

Now on top the centre consol, doors and roof.

I'll see if i can get a pic for u.
Ps as they are LED's they only work one way round so test before re-assembling the dashboard!

Yup - good point about checking them before installing the dash. I did but only from previous experience of using LED bulbs

nope uses the same bulb as the background, which is one reson i chose red, pics are coming along soon
