Headlight retract after flash (sidelights mod)

Hi all, I'm looking into how to do one of the headlight mods, where the pop ups retract after flashing, when sidelights are on.
I've got a relay which already does the quick retract after flashing.
I've found one thread on this site, however is from 2011, so the pictures dont appear, and I cant find any other write ups online, only brief mentions,
any help would be appreciated, many thanks

Is there a way to improve the speed of the headlamps when flashing someone? Possibly by using bigger capacitors ?

pop down Maplins if you have one ,or ebay ,and get a couple of capacitors 10uf (16v),

Open up the blue headlight control box and Remove the right hand capacitor (just pull it upwards and it will separate from the legs) in this picture (black one ),and join the legs together, or replace with a piece of wire to complete the circuit

Remove the left hand capacitor in the picture (blue one) and replace with one of the new capacitors you just bought
(you only need one but i bought a few just in case because i was playing )

if you don't know, the longer leg on the capacitor is live ,this goes on the right hand side ,if you look at the original capacitor theres a minus symbol on the left

Csn this be done with lazy eye kits as well? I've never been all that fussed about any of the headlamp tweaks but these do sound good. Caught a picture of my car at the painters when it was getting done and he'd screwed up the lights a bit and it does look good

Sorted pop up/sidelight mod finally. Cheers for the info, have attached some pics below.
On the link write up, it says to cut terminal 6 cable on the loom to the light relay box, however I dont like cutting wires,
so snipped the metal terminal for no. 6 inside the blue box, then added a toggle switch for switching back to normal.
Not used my original relay box, swapped it out for one with quick flash mod already done.







This is pic of the mod done for quick flash, bought relay already modded, changes circled.


Works great now, lights wizz back down quick after flashing someone, an no more staying up after flashing, when sidelights are on

I'm really glad that somebody has posted how to do this as it p1$$e$ me right off when I am running my sidelights/fogs and flash somebody and the headlights stay up.

Is it really just as simple as cutting/disconnecting the red wire?

if your fogs are on shouldn't your headlights be on as well?

Not necessarily... but it's got to be foggy. It's illegal to drive around with fog lights on if visibility isn't significantly reduced

If you look at the photos enlarged you can see that the poster clipped the leg for the pin on the bottom right of the connector block. So looking at the loom plug check that the red wire goes to that position.

Has anyone ever converted the stock fog light housing to look original but run as a drl? That would be pretty cool.

To work as DRLs, you'd need to dim the lights as your sidelights came on... which will look a bit quiche if you're running the filament bulbs as they'll at best look rather orange when under run (whether by voltage or PWM)

With some rewiring and a DRL module, yeah, you could make them work. Although if you put in an LED H3 with equivalent light output, I bet most DRL modules will burn out with the current load. DRLs tend not to be quite that bright anyway...
