Suspension knock over light bumps but can't find anything loose underneath!

Hi, hoping someone can advise what I change first!

I have a front suspension knock which has been growing In noise over the last few weeks. You can hear it over light bumps or potholes when travelling at speed and when you're at low speed over a speedbump it creaks.

Anyway I checked under the car with the wheel off, got a pry bar and levered around and couldn't really find anything loose.

The top mounts are new and don't seem to be loose.

So I need to start somewhere... What would people change first given the description above?

I'm thinking lower ball joint and track rod end?

May be worth checking the anti roll bar bushes there under tension most of the time so not always easy to feel with a pry bar.

Ah OK, that's not a bad shout. Doesn't look like a tragic job so I might do them first and go from there.

Drop links can make some nasty noises when they are on the way out too.

Thanks Gaz, I've recently replaced the drop links when I fitted new front shocks / top mounts so can't imagine its them?

I honestly thought with the amount of noise coming from the front that it would be really noticeable what was loose underneath but everything just seemed so tight.

I've ordered some arb bushes from Mr T came in at £9 each which i thought was reasonable.

I've also ordered two lower ball joints and a track rod end so i'll fit that lot and see what cometh!

One last question, should the MR2 have a gearbox / engine undertray? The last one on mine is a small arched one like this

but then there is nothing which is odd as the last two important bits i.e gearbox/engine are uncovered?

Is this the tray i need? Seller says its the last tray?

its still worth double checking the drop links mine were slightly loose (I was able to get a few more turns using the ratchet), tightened them back up and never heard anything after.

I spent 2hrs last weekend checking for the same thing. After pulling out the drivers side arch liner, removing all the items in the frunk etc...It turned out to be a loose undertray underneath the front. I'd over looked this previously or wasn't pulling on the right piece of plastic.

try the the nut on top of the new shocker, it often works loose

I am having a similar issue to this, but have resigned myself to checking everything after I've fitted the coilovers!
