Plugged in new bulb and the bulbs flickered once then never came on again.

Front or back?
If the rear you may find it has been poorly wired(mine was) so all the power going through the lamp in the switch and the switch and not running through a relay. This puts too much power through the tiny bulb and pops it and possibly then breaks the circuit.
