Import Turbo GT vs GT-S insurance difference

I have a 94 Turbo GT-S and have been looking on compare the market for quotes

If I put in all the same details but the model of the car being a GT or GTS.
the quotes I get are,
GT £810
GT-S £1500+

I want peoples thoughts on this, should I put my car down as a GT or will that be very risky?

I don't see why the difference is so massive! considering the GT is the higher specked model as well!

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the GT version in the UK database is classed as a non turbo UK spec.

The turbo is an import only model so you are best to get a proper quote from a specialised insurer over a phone call, the comparrison sites will probably only tell you to contact the insurer direct at the end of the quote anyway if you are truthful while getting it, chances are they are all quoting you for a non-turbo model as well

I have two turbos at the moment, and when I swapped my classic insurance cover from one to the other, they went asked what variant, I told them GT-S and they knew it was a 2.0 turbo.
Not all insurance companies will be aware of this.

Forget comparison sites look to www.classicline.co.uk good for many owners. Not a classic car ins but a regular year by year no claims discount accrual so like normal. Can specify miles per year approximation.
Whereas actual classic car insurance is like emmigrating after two years you've lost your NCD.

Kirk: I was seaching for the Turbo model and not a standard GT so they should be aware that the car is a turbo

I rang up my best quote and explained it was a GT-S and they quoted me an extra £40. If it was insured as a classic car

Im 21 and driving since 17 with only named drivers experience. Imo getting under a grand is a sweet deal for my situation.

Should hopefully be taking the car out after midnight tonight and finally have my mr2 on the road after spending the last 6 months finding a good rev3 turbo. Lets hope the weather stays good for a few weeks
