Top mount alignment

Post by thomp1983 »

Hopefully a quick one so I can get them fitted, I've just fitted new front top mounts but wondered if there supposed to be aligned in a certain orientation?

As you can see at the bottom of that picture there is a cutout whereas the other sides are flat, does the cutout go in a particular direction when fitting? I've got the top spring pans correctly aligned just need to know about the top mounts

Cheers

The OE ones have an arrow that should be pointed inboard iirc. This is more necessary on the ones that have an offset mount hole but again not sure which revs they are.

Iirc I mounted my kyb with the cut out inboard assuming they were instead of an arrow.

Sorry I couldn't be more help

That helps alot buddy, I've several seized top mounts in my scrap pile one has an arrow on the top, if the arrow is to go inboard then the cutout on my new ones will be outboard.

Rev1's had the off center mounts but they can't be many left on the road as most places just sell the centre offset ones as they will fit all revs

Actually scrub that, with the cutout positioned outboard the top mount doesn't line up so the cutout has to be either at the front or rear of the strut tower, I've positioned it to the rear for now(12 o clock as you look into the frunk)

Just wondering this myself.

Is it only the Toyota ones that were offset?
The current set on mine look like they are offset, but then the rubber looks compressed on the inside edge, so could just the age related sag.
This is a stock rev 4 uk.

Looking into adjustable top mounts, the Tein are about £170, some no brand ones are about £120 just to find something with the non centered mounting.

Anyone noticed any handling changes with the center mounted ones?

Found the answer, the cutout goes towards the rear the car (12 o clock looking into the frunk), if your top mounts have an arrow this will be pointing to the headlight.

Offset top mounts were rev1 only, if you fit non offset top mounts then I'd suspect you will lose some camber, in my case it's not an issue as ive camber bolts fitted and will be having a wheel alignment soon
