Are there any Traction Control systems available apart from Racelogic?

Post by monkeyra »

Racelogic ones can't be used with a 2GRFE engine.

Is there anything else on the market? Google is throwing up nothing.

Not interested in switching away from the Toyota ECU either.

Why can't Racelogic be used with the 2GRFE ?

Most other systems are part of a replacement ECU.

Not compatible. Was gutted when I found it as I had it installed when running a 3SGTE, amazing bit of kit.

In what way exactly is it not compatible ?

Bad news to hear it's no longer being sold by Racelogic but sure there will be plenty of second hand units available.

RACELOGIC Traction Control is not compatible with the following:

Misfire detection: If your engine management acts upon detecting misfires by putting the vehicle into limp-home mode, or illuminating the check-engine dashboard lamp, RACELOGIC Traction Control cannot be used unless the misfire detection function is disabled. This can be done in some cases by ECU tuning specialists.
Pulse width modulation to control/limit the injector current.
Peak and hold injector drivers
Low impedance injectors with resistance lower than 4ohms
Peak and hold and pulse width modulated injector signals
Wet nitrous stream
Water & Ethanol injection
Active ABS sensors

I reckon this is probably one of the reasons they discontinued it, it won't work with anything modern. It's a shame as there's a market for it.

There is an OBD2 code for 'multiple cylinder misfire' which the Racelogic will always trigger when it cuts spark. This in turn will generate an engine warning light on an OBD2 ECU and potentially some sort of limp mode. It would still work on aftermarket ECUs where you can enable and disable these sorts of checks but not on a Toyota ECU.

It doesn't cut spark John. It replicates the fuel feed and cuts fuel when necessary.

My bad, been a long time since I looked into it. Either way, it would create a multiple misfire condition!

Exactly if there is no fuel there is no ignition.

RLTC is normally wired to cut fuel, but can be wired to cut ignition. Guess the 2GRFE ECU must be a bit more sensitive to these scenarios than our ancient 90's ECU's
