MOT emissions rules - UK Revision 5 conversion.

Post by SonicSW20 »

Anyone on here an MOT tester or own a UK Rev4/5 with a Rev3 turbo conversion - the MOT test states that it must be tested to whatever is older - the engine or the chassis.

In this case, the engine would be older, and therefore following the flowchart in sectio 7.3 page 9, we land at the non CAT test assuming the engine is pre 31st July 1995 - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... hicles.pdf

Even though the chassis would require a default limit CAT test (assuming no match in the emissions book).

Question is, how do I prove the age of the engine to the tester?

If you could track down the chassis number that the engine came from then you'd be able to get the month/year of manufacture, but getting that proof in writing may be easier said than done.

If you found a sympathetic ear at a Toyota dealer they may be able to help with a date through engine number, maybe.

Getting a photocopy / can of the donor's V5C won't be a problem... Just wasn't sure if that would be enough. Going to ask the place who usually MOT's mine, but it would be good to know if there's an accepted way of doing it!

You could try PM'ing tsango on here, he had a rev 1 turbo engine fitted to a rev 5 UK car. :thumleft:

ETA - assuming he had a decat fitted!

Or ask this guy:

Rev 5 UK car, rev 3 turbo engine, decat fitted.

I spoke to my MOT blokes, they said they would accept that - but it's up to each MOT station to decide if its proof enough or not.
