Bleeding alloy rad?

Post by outrun »

I have one of those eBay alloy radiators with no where to attach the second bleed hose.
What is the procedure people use?

I would rather not replace it for an OEM (mine was knackered) or remove it and fit a bleed screw.

Any help?

I unscrewed mine to the point where I could hear pressured air beginning to escape. I also made the error of taking the wing nut out, its a pain in the ar$e to get back in, so just unscrew it to the point of air release rather than totally out.

^^ this, just open it enough to let air out. It will let some coolant out but you can't do much about that.

Cheers, lads. The car has been bled with this rad once before, and aside from having to cut down the wing nut as it fouled the top hose, it bled up alright.
This time the coolant was flying out of the hose on the heater valve, so I gave in. Maybe it had too much in at the time.

Do you run it with the rad cap on half a turn?
Also, what temp on the gauge should see the rad fans kick in? They were working fine, until I changed the engine.
