I have never found that. My car is a daily drive so i drive in dry, wet and snow whenever we have it. Not once have they let go on me. Having said that I do drive according to road conditions.

Push your car hard on a nice set of super grippy wet tyres and they let go you hit the ditch a lot faster than what I would do LOL

Maybe for a track yes buy the higher priced tyres but for everyday driving i cant see why you would want to spend £100-£200 per tyre. #-o

You don't need to spend £200 a tyre to get something significantly better than an NS2.

In 16inch sizes (205/45R16 / 225/45R16), a full set of KU31's will cost you ~£240 plus fitting. Not much more than equivalent NS2's, and demonstrably better - see the reviews in the previous post.

If you're happy with them, then that's fine. Your car to do what you want with. Fact is, NS2's are crap :thumleft:

Because MR2s are performance cars! It doesn't matter how good the rest of your car is if it's held back by the only bit actually in contact with the road being rubbish.

If you've got a run of the mill car then, sure, put run of the mill tyres on and potter around within their lower limits. But if you want to safely use your MR2 for what it is on the public road, you should have decent tyres on.

The exception to this is if you want to purposefully exceed the envelope on your cheap tyres and slide the car everywhere... which is something I'd suggest you shouldn't be doing on a public road

That said, I would say that £200 a corner is probably excessive in SW20 sizes, but £100 is around the ballpark of quality I normally aim for. I even put top quality tyres on my daily driver too because, even if though I adjust my driving for the conditions, having better tyres will always be safer in adverse conditions.

Having fitting my turbo with AD08s, which is a fair-weather car, I'm not sure I'd go back to normal road tyres for it. My NA is a different matter, and I'm more likely to fit expensive tyres to my daily drive because it's the car that comes out most in the wet and it's wet conditions where a good tyre starts to stand out from a bad one. But even on my NA, I won't settle for less than a B rating on wet performance.

I have am considering the kumhos when I am back from the trip. As I'm hoping for mostly dry weather July/August when we go, I am in a Convoy with a focus rs Mk1 that my mate is tuning down to 300bhp for the trip #-o
My other mate in his s3 so I will be wanting sticky tyres (not forgetting the rev3 turbo engine I'm putting in soon) Seen the R1R's for £380 all round I think that bloody fair price for such a good tyre.

Currently running yoko ad08r. Superb tyres.

Replacing fronts quoted £105 a side , demon tweeks got me a deal on ns2r at £80
per side fitted so I'm giving them a try. Will report on how they perform in the Welsh Hills over next few weeks :thumleft:

Would be good to know how the NS2R compares to an AD08R in less than perfect conditions on an MR2 :thumleft:

They only appear to do a 205 width size in 16 and in 17s they dont have a low enough profile option for the front. :?

Shame because they look like a decent alternative to the usual stuff. I know people rate Federal 595 RS-R's also for a cheap decent compound and they seem to come in 17 in sizes for mr2.

Personaly I just go with 205/50/16 and 225/50/16 for a bit of extra sidewall. Plus that rear size is oem R32 GT-R and I think S2000 rear so there are a few more choices in that size.

I'm running Federal 595 RS-R's, Significantly cheaper than R888's and the Porsche GT3 track racers rate them highly......

First time out on twisties, slightly damp however mostly dry conditions. NS2s felt great, I could really lean on them with total confidence.

R888r I just them on big improvement over the r888. R888r noise is much better it's like a normal road tyre unlike the r888.

Dry grip is unbelievable you will know as soon as you use the brakes

Wet grip is as good as any budget tyre...

I havnt tried any other semi slick tyre so can't comment on the others
