195 50 16 on front?

Post by HughesR1 »

I'm looking at various tyre options for 7J & 8J wheels and wondered if anyone had tried 195 50 16 on the front with 16x7 wheels?

The reason I ask is many Lotus race cars run 195 50 16 and 225 45 16 track tyres so I can pick up used decent semi slicks quite cheap. Naturally I'd expect it to be a bit more understeery than with a 205 45 16, but if they fit alright I'm sure I could live with it and try and dial it out with a decent setup.

Anyone tried this setup? :thumleft:

Not tried it myself (I'm running 205/45/16) but a quick visit to willtheyfit.com suggests they're similar enough to stock sizes (within 3mm rolling radius) that you shouldn't have an issue:

Cheers, I did already have a quick look on that site to see if they would physically fit :thumleft: I was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experiences or photos etc.

Might give it a go with some Avon ZZRs

I'm running 205/50/16 on a 7JJ with no issues if that's any help.

225/45/16 8JJ on the rears.

Can you even get ZZR's now? Thought they were discontinued.

Pretty sure you can still get them as they're the control tyre for the Lotus championship, unless they've already switched to the ZZS? Either way there are loads of 195 50 16 part worn semi slicks about for not alot of money.

Looking at how the 205 45 16 sits on the 7j though I'm worried 195 50 16 will look a bit stretched :-k
