Oil pressure gauges - recommendations please

Post by androo007 »

Hi guys,

Want to get a gauge in for monitoring oil pressure. Would ideally like 45mm to replace the stock turbo pressure one on the speedo.

Couple of questions:

Where would this tap into? I have a rev 2 bottom end.

Are the prosport ones on ebay any good?

Cheers

Also.... a 2 part question.

I want to get an oil pressure tester from Halfords tomorrow. How do they work? Will the thread sizes fit in anywhere?

Stack gauges are nice, up to you where you measure pressure from- there are different schools of thought as to the best...right after the pump (say on an oil filter sandwhich plate) to get earliest warning of any drop in pressure....or at the top of the head (where the stock sensor is) to give you a reading of pressure at the point furthest from the pump (i.e. and indication of pressure across the whole system).

I measure at the head.

If you have a decent pressure sensor and gauge, you don't need to give any money to halfrauds :thumleft:

Thanks ash.

I'm looking for full system so head perfect for me.

So if I buy the gauge, what do I need to also use the stock location as won't removing the stock sensor cause the red light?

I'm after a really fast answer hense the Halfordz tester.

Yeah- you'd need to do something to delete the red light, not sure if the signal feeds the ECU as well...you need someone with more experience of the stock ECU....sorry!

No problem, thanks.

To get me back on the road comfortably, I'll look to do a pressure test from the kit in the meantime. What's the procedure with those? I've Google searched loads but had no luck on the mr2

Go out and have a look at your engine...I think the coolant neck may be in the way.

Use.a remote kit, less stress on the threads in the head.

I've read a lot about these remote kits but wasn't able to track down a picture or apparent kit to help me out.

Will be on the blower to Pete first thing anyway so I'm sure he will have plenty of ideas

Can't even find a pressure tester with a BSP thread :'(

On my rev 2 tubby I used an LMA095/1 LMA Oil Pressure Remote kit from Demon Tweaks (T Piece 1/8 BSPT 0.5m Pipeline)

Link.

I'm afraid I don't know if the thread size is the same on all models/revs.

Ah now I understand! OK thanks a lot Paul that's very helpful.
