The Yellows on my old MR2 were no better than OE replacement Pagids really.

I know two people now who've had EBC pads disintegrate with heavy use - full on material / back plate separation.

It seems their quality control is a bit rubbish.

Another vote against EBC - I've found Red, Green and Yellows to be pretty awful on several cars (Greens were fitted new, the others were already fitted to cars I bought).

OEM discs are all you need Jordan - TCB offer the best price off the top of my head. All the dimpled/grooved etc. discs are essentially gimmicks, and drilled discs have been known to actually crack

EDIT I also run Carbotech AX6 pads on the front with Pagids on the rear (not got around to changing them yet) - the Carbotechs are flipping fantastic, but the dust is insane

I know you guys are mentioning OEM discs will be sufficient,
but if not for function, I'd quite like for form. Dimpled and grooved
certainly look a lot better lol.

Are you saying you'd stay away from EBC discs as well then ?
or is it just their pads that are not the best ?

I know Carbotech's are a tried and tested route, but the excessive dust
will just wind me up. Dont get me wrong I'm all about performance but I also like the car to stay
clean.

Nah , trust me its driven hard.

but all I ever hear about Carbotech's is how incredibly dusty they are.

So today I've been doing a little re-search into
pad options. It seems there is not a lot of love for EBC !
Yellow stuff pads have had a 20 page discussion on Piston Heads and
80% of the feedback is horribly negative.
people are suggesting the below as alternatives.

Fensport suggested black diamond discs
but then again I've not heard amazing reviews on
them either. I can't seem to find the "one" to go for !!

Just give them a go, the most important thing is to bed them in properly.

They don't have the best reputation but I found my old yellow stuffs to be good for the money, of course if I spent twice as much or more on porterfields or carbotechs they would be significantly better

I can't help but suspect at least half of the people who slate them probably need to think about how there using there brakes instead of the all too common pile them on at the last second and wondering why there struggling to get turned in properly, almost any known reasonable brand brakes and decent tyres should be sufficient for driving on public roads at a decent pace.

i think we are all agreed that good quality discs are best to start with followed by pads that suit you. Whether you go stock brakes or BBK is something that gets debated to death every time. None of the above is worth a damn if you fit cheap as tyres ........

@ thomp1983 & raptor95GTS Your both right IMO guys, I have since spoken
to Fensport & Rouge , and they both have their opinions on whats best.
It seems to be a preference situation. Rouge is clearly more of a motorsport
company so naturally suggest Carbotech.

Paul @ TCB is very confident in the EBC setup he recommended, and has supplied proof
of the change of compounds since all the hysteria about poor
production and horror stories was around. I can't seem to think that its a case of people maybe passing on the old info ?

For just under £450 Paul has quoted me with
EBC dimpled & grooved discs , EBC yellow stuff pads & Hel braided lines
all round Including VAT ! Thats a pretty good price and I'm willing to try it.
Hopefully i won't be disappointed, but to be honest I'm the sort of person
that would kick up a fuss with EBC if they turned out to be PPP ( p1$$ pants poor )

In regards to tyres, I'm running Yokohama AD08r's ..... enough grip when warm !!

Hmm yeah I think it was a year or two ago.
Below is the most recent response from Paul at TCB
about this issue.

"EBC did have some issues in the past of problems with warm up and also the pad material dropping off of the backing, since then they've totally changed the compound so the warm up is massively increased and have a new hook system on the backing to keep the material in place, so they've totally redesigned it, I actually refused to sell EBC previously until I learnt about this redesign, the ferodo pads are apparently good but very expensive"

To add to the dissenters...

I have had both Red Stuff and Yellow Stuff and have not been impressed with either I'm afraid. Red Stuff were worse than standard, especially after a few laps of Mallory Park (although I appreciate they're a road pad, I was still surprised and just how bad they were).

Yellow Stuff have been better wth good bite from cold but I find them to be a little inconsistent when pressing on. I'm sure they'd be fine for just fast road though.

I'm curious to try Blue Stuff which is their track day pad, just to see how they fair.

The Bad feedback for me is just too much to Ignore.
