[Mk2 Turbo] Electric Windows work when ignition switched off

Post by Al1exx »

Hello everyone,
Is this right? The electric windows on my Rev 1 Turbo still work even when the ignition is switched off and the keys removed, AND the switches stay lit up?!?
Surely this isn't right?

I bet you guys have had an after market alarm fitted right!!!! If so, that is your issue and the guy who installed it has linked afew wires together so that the door/s get power all the time so as the central locking works when you press the key fob. I know this cos i also had the same issue, took me ages to work out where the issue was. If you agree with the above, have a look under the drivers footwell, you will see a little blue box which is tucked up high underneath and is hard to see, this is the box for the central door locking motors etc, you will probably see that the guy/s have linked some of the wires into that box, the box may even be warm also. The solution to solve this is difficult and involved me installing x2 small miniture relays into the drivers door. Email me for details if you wish but be prepared for a lengthy solution / install.

Better if i just reply here for everyone else also.
The alarm you have will probably have x2 wires for the central locking, one will be a negative pulse signal locking the doors and the other will be a negative pulse signal for unlocking the doors.
You will need to find these two wires and disconnect them from where they are, mine were connected to the passenger door connector block in the passenger footwell (Remove the plastic trim first to see this), your may also be connected here / or on the drivers connector. Once i had disconnected these, i found that the windows & button lights etc now only worked with the ignition key so i knew they were related to the issue since everything started to work ok, apart from the remote central locking obviously!
I then routed these x2 wires over and into the drivers door panel together with a permanently positive wire (From the Battery +), this involved removing the door trim and the rubber cable shroud and rounting the x3 wires through. I then used x1 miniature relay to simulate the locking of the doors i.e. connecting the relays contacts onto the underside of the lock / unlock button to simulate the Lock action, and the other relay simulates the unlock action of the switch. Since the relays have their own positive supply from the battery, they will work when ever the recieve the negative pulse from the alarm.
I connected everything else back to like it was before, i.e. the wires into teh central locking box under the drivers footwell.
Until now (Over 6 months) all has been ok and the car can once again stand for 11 days (The maximum until now that i have not used the car) without being used and then start with no issue :-) Good luck, it is not easy and perhaps there is another way but i didn;t find it but am happy now that i can lock and unlock the door remotely. cheers
