fuel cut defender

Post by steven63 »

anyone know for sure if a fuel cut defender will work on my rev3 turbo, some seem to think they only work on earlier revisions .

You need to use a clamping or Paul Port FCD for your rev3 otherwise you will lean out the fuelling and that's usually bad news (and expensive) Rev3+ have fuel cut at 19psi and the stock turbo is a bit of a hairdrier at those levels..

The question is why you need one on a rev 3. What is your build?
A FCD is usually only used on rev 1 and 2.

what supporting mods do you have to warrant running over 18-19psi with the stock ecu?

You dont need any real mods to run 18psi on REV3 standard ECU as its only 1.2bar which a REV3 will do all day long LOL

Maybe just need an intercooler and that's about it.

that is not what im getting at.

what mods to warrant running MORE boost than this to justify running even more than fuel cut area.

I will strongly advise raising the boost more that 18psi, the fuel cut is not an advisory cut.

Especially in this hot weather, there is NOTHING to gain by going pass 1.2 bar of boost on a CT20b turbo. Even at 1.2bar of boost the rev 3 is not totally safe.

Some owners have had piston rings go on them at this pressure. 18psi/1.2bar is absolute limit of boost pressure you want on a standard rev 3 with stage 1 mods

Firstly i would make sure my boost gauge was accurate

Perhaps I'm missing something but what's the fascination of 18psi?

Why not just run 17psi and call it a day so you have some safety margin, no fuel cut worries and a little less stress on the car.

fuel cut is above 18psi but as said 17 / 17.5 is pretty close and does give an element of protection should your boost controller not catch the limit quick enough. Engines can go pop at this boost level as well........ ( i remember Paul Port running 22psi on his rev3 CT20 with WI and that engine stayed together)

However in answer to your question and repeating myself, a Paul Port or a clamping limiter will do the job on rev3+
