Hi All,
Has anyone removed one camshaft at a time without removing the timing belt? I have seen this done before on other engines like Evo engines etc.
If I set up the timing to TDC and then cable tie the timing belt say in 3 or places to the cam pulley whilst keeping tension on the belt I should be able to take the cam bolt out from the pulley and proceed to remove that camshaft.
Then replace and tighten up before repeating on the second camshaft.
Has anyone done this before?....
Cheers Craig

My bet is the tensioner would move and you wouldn't be able to put pulley back on. If you are removing tensioner you might as well remove the belt. At least while the belt is off you can check the water pump etc.
I'm all for a short cut but most of the time better off doing it right and doing it once.
Have a go, you might be lucky but I doubt it would work.

If you remove the tensioner you can do it (and use a bungy cord to keep tension on the tensioner pulley)....but the real risk is the belt slipping on the crank pulley (speaking from bitter experience!!)...but it is possible...

Seems like something that might have a 50% chance of saving you a couple hours work... No harm in trying it I guess, if it doesn't work setting mechanical timing the proper way isn't too long anyway.
