It does make sense...if you know what you're doing it really doesn't need to be that much more than a normal forged build :eye:

The banned trader can get you custom cp 86.25. same price but does have a small lead time. (Not used him myself but very helpful when enquired)

I see you mentioned some Bride seats a page or so back, would you go for plain or with the graduated Bride logo?

I've been looking at some Bride Euroster 2's, not sure if I like the graduations or if it's a bit chavvy? With that said i've been looking at some Bride floor mats so at least they would compliment each other.

If I do then it'd be a set of old Brix, in the classic dark blue/graduated centres, your sea pay must be burning a hole in your pocket if you're buying new! What's it like on the collins boats? You all qualified yet?

ha it is kinda, i've been trying to buy a Blitz exhaust for a week and yet none of the suppliers in Aus cba to get back to me, I feel like I need to twist someones arm to convince them to sell to me.

I've got my dolphins on collins class but not qualified in any positions yet as only went to sea for the first time at the end of may. That said I had more runs ashore in 6/7 weeks then I did in the last 8 years!

At sea is quite different though, V boats are like a hotel by comparison.

Wossner's are low compression and come in 86, 86.25, 86.5 etc so tick all of your boxes.

Why 86.5? After much advice it was the recommended way to ensure the best tolerances.

5S is a good way forward for a little extra displacement and strength. I'd only blown my piston 2 ringland so wanted to reuse everything else. It will come out again in the future no doubt!

Stock rods are meant to max out safety at 380 rob... for the sake of 300 quid get some eagle rods in there :thumleft: don't forget I've even got a complete bottom end for £200 to get you started.... :thumleft:

TBH, this is the route I'd prefer to take.. I've currently got a saved search on ebay for a 2.2 camry, if I can find a whole car cheap enough I can just dump it on my mothers drive till I'm ready, failing that if a block comes up for sale I may well take the plunge.

obviously I don't plan on pointlessly destroying my current engine, and even if it only lasts a few thousand miles being "pushed" further than it probably should that's realistically a couple of years worth of driving for me and more than enough time to get a replacement sorted. what I really need to do is buy some 5S specific parts then I'll have committed myself to it

I'm massively jumping the gun here but I think if I was to build one, I'd quite like to keep the 3S crank and make an oversquare motor.. there are clearly many ways to skin the 5S cat though.

this is, however still at the pipe dream stage at the min, the car is perfectly good as it is, for the time being.

380?? Who told you that?? Somebody trying to sell you parts you don't need??

Chris on here was running 650 on standard rods. I've run 400+ on two different engines on stock rods. I'd only change the rods if you want to go HUGE power, drag car etc.

What's your end power goal rob??

honestly? I don't know.. I've not even driven this current set up properly in anger but I get the feeling it's not going to be fast enough for me. I don't want to end up with something that's a pig on the road, I don't want to be constantly spending money repairing/replacing the next weakest link in the chain, Ideally I don't want to be replacing any parts I've already spent money on (big ticket items anyway) so, with a sensible head on.. my current turbo is probably good for 425bhp.. maybe 450bhp, although I doubt it a bit on a .63 housing, my fuel system is probably good to the same sort of power, as much as I've enjoyed playing around mapping the power FC (probably my favourite part of the "build" tbh, other than making the downpipe) I'm fully aware of it's limitations and as much as something a bit better and more feature rich (ms3PRO etc) would be nice realistically it's not going to happen any time soon

that said, probably somewhere in the region of 400hp

well, I've put a decent amount of miles on the car now, the odd misfire issue reared it's ugly head again at the weekend, but has been totally fine on the ~350 mile trip down south, and again yesterday when I took it out for a 60-70 mile blast around the hampshire countryside. I did end up pulling over about half way around the loop I did to stiffen up the rear dampers a couple of clicks, now on 9/16 stiffness, it feels better than the previous 6/16 and couldn't resist a couple of pictures while I was at it.

I did a quick oil change at the weekend, despite the old oil and filter only being about 1500 miles old it had sat for a year so it made sense to put some fresh in, the SARD oil filter is about an inch longer than the HKS one I removed too, which is nice

Image

I've got a new NGK coil on it's way which will be fitted as soon as it arrives and I've bought Ashley's old AEM water injection kit which I'll probably fit over summer leave, I'm still trying to find a 3" pre compressor nozzle bracket but I'll probably have to make one myself.

overall I'm pretty happy with it. definitely need better brakes, more power would be nice, I need to rotate the gear cube because the shift is a little bit vague but on the whole, it's not too bad.

Looks superb man! Loved reading the whole thread. I've just recently got a white rev5 tubby with a full TOMs kit too. Definitely the best colour for that particular kit, looks stunning! :thumleft:

How much were your seats btw? They look nice and wide too. No problems with the door catching them when closed or rubbing on centre console..?

Thanks mate, I remember seeing your car for sale when it was imported, it's really nice!

From memory I think I paid £280 for my seat, and another £120 for the mount from rogue but it seems the seats have been reduced now

http://www.sportseats4u.co.uk/index.php ... ductId=796

Which is mega value for a proper FiA approved seat.

I'm actually half looking for a bride Brix recliner to replace it though, which I think is what yours had when it came over from Japan?

Correct. I had one in the car, but without a matching one, I decided to sell it on and it was a bit too big and clunky for me really.

They do look superb your seats! I love my Brides, but they're a little too tight for a few of my mates so I was considering changing them :( Drives out aren't always fun on your own

Could you do me a huge favour mate..? Could you measure from the inner of each side and post a piccy? Also, a pic of when the doors are closed so can see the gap between the centre console and the door card?

Yeah no problem I'll grab some later, they don't touch the door or the centre console, it's a tight fit but there's room to squeeze a hand in to bolt them to the side mounts :thumleft:

Cheers dude, appreciate that. Subbed btw, keep the updates coming. p.s. Love the wheels. If you ever decide to change them, give me a shout. I've got some super rare BBS LMs on atm, but might fancy a change.

And as much as I despise polishing the wheels, they really are perfect for the car so it'd take something pretty special to tempt me to swap - regamasters maybe, or some other forged, single piece Japanese wheels in perfect sizes
