Good day...

Post by HighwayStar »

Sunday.

Not only did Lewis win well. Not only did Andy win well. Not only did Ronaldo cry… twice, but I also had a great day at the Kimbolton Classics meet. Saw the finest mk1 I've ever seen owned from just 18 mths by current owner Barry but also my new ride 'Fast Eddie' was a joy.

After swapping over my old cars brakes to the new rev1 I had a sticking calliper issue (stood still too long). 'New' (recon) callipers, discs and pads for the front has sorted all that and now it's mighty on the brakes. I also took the opportunity to give them a fresh paint job before fitting so 'Ed' would look good on his outing in posh company.

Drove flawlessly there and back and put a huge smile on my face with the tops off, no turbo, no pas, no abs and no traction control just good changes, high revs and braking feel. Great Day.

I took some pics of it Monday whilst still clean and well waxed with the new calliper colour. Pics in my garage if of interest.

I do love these cars. Happy, safe driving all.

And this why we all drive MR2's

The B645 and B660 passing through Kimbolton are mega fun

You know it!

I used the B645 through from Spaldwick…. great fun. It's the sort of road you can enjoy without going completely mad but it was a good test of the new brakes. First time I've been out properly in it since I've got it to the point I want and although the suspension is standard I've got to say it feels as confidence inspiring as my old tein/B6 equipped white car.

It was perfect, free revving engine, tight direct steering, great handling and now stops and slows beautifully. When it was parked up amongst everything else 20mins later it looked fabulous too…

What do people think about the gold callipers?

was thinking about caliper colour the other day while walking to the shops.
A lighter colour is going to look tired after a number of months being covered in brake dust and heat cycled hundred of times.

Think that I'll side with black calipers when the upgrade happens just for this reason.
Otherwise the wheels would have to come off every time you washed it, just to clean the bling-look-at-my-brake calipers.

Fit and forget is much better for a road car.

I've no problem giving them a touch up every couple of years if I need to… it's not exactly a tricky job so maintenance isn't really an issue. Squirt of brake cleaner every once in a while helps keep 'em clean too. The light orange ones on my white car looked OK even after 4/5yrs.

The ones before (painted for the white car), as said were orange and they didn't look too bad on the new red car. Went with the orange in the indicator elements. The gold is certainly more eye catching though and in comparison to the orange is a better compliment to the deep red of the car.

I guess here again I've gone with the attitude of change for the new car (now everything else in my life has changed why not?) and so if I wasn't going to keep the orange the gold was the next best option. The same colour red would have looked good but getting a match in temp resistant paint would have been tricky…

It's all personal choice of course and I respect Androo's view but I think after living with them for a week or so I've finally decided I like the gold… somehow it dates it a little and with this new car I'm still going for that vintage look.

The beauty of these sorts of mods is if I change my mind in a few years time it's only a few hrs and £25 to change them again….

PS. CalMac I love those red seats in your black car fella. :thumleft:

You got the right attitude pal - at the end of the day if you like it that's what matters.

I'm sure people don't like the fact my red bonnet is faded, but I don't care
