Installing a Phoenix Power IC without dropping the engine.....

Post by Rob »

I've hopefully managed to bag myself a PP intercooler.

I have an ARC intercooler in at present that was a git to get in but nowhere near the size of the PP core which is massive.

Has anyone managed to get the PP in without dropping the engine? I can't drop it so have to find a way of slotting it in - I'm sure PP wouldn't have produced a bolt on upgrade that required engine removal?

Any tips gratefully received.

No experience of it myself, but depending on how much clearance you need you can lower the engine a fair amount by putting a trolley jack under the sump with wood to spread the load (near a corner), and removing the drivers side engine mount. This is how you do a cambelt in situ and allows you to move the engine up and down a bit. Doesn't take long to do and only requires a socket set, axle stands, and a trolley jack :thumleft:

Nope - I've been told its engine out job by someone who had one installed.

I don't know for sure, but RacerX make a very similar large sidemount and they state the downpipe needs to be removed to install, I imagine with the downpipe off and AC compressor removed there would probably be a fair bit of room to slot it in from underneath

It's not engine out, nor do you need to remove the mount.take off the hanger, and sometimes the brake vacuum line. Maybe even the ac idler pulley but didn't last time. simples.

Luke from Pacific Works did mine, it's definitely NOT an engine out job. Where did you hear this?

You should while you're doing it get a bigger fan and shroud (Chris gts used to sell them)

Thanks Fellas - Luke that's reassuring - many thanks.

I have no aircon so that is no problem and I removed the engine hanger over the timing belt already.

I've got a Spal puller already lined up......

Happier now :)
