Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
Pretty simple really, trying to figure out what are the recommended power/torque bands or boost levels before upgrading TB and inlet mani?
Doesn't seem to be a lot of info online, I've seen some people say stock won't do over 500, some people say it will but gains will be better on an upgraded inlet and TB.
I'm trying to avoid upgrading until winter as I may decide to upgrade quite a few other parts at the same time
If I have to upgrade to get half decent performance then now would be an ideal time as I am holed up in hospital so could get the waiting out of the way
Before upgrading those parts there is no harm getting everything else up to scratch and sticking the car on a dyno.
For the price of £300 odd it is worth the risk, see what figures you get, how the car drives etc.
No point in going mental with upgrading things when you could get away with not having them in the first place, Just my 2p, How's things dude ? Hope you are feeling better
I don't know exactly but sure you can get big power on stock Mani and tb. Agree with Martin and see what you achieve first. Plus with the slump in the £ now may not be the best time to be ordering from the states.
No better yet Martin, still waiting on the same examinations I've been waiting for since being admitted again last Sunday
That was my plan to be honest but my gripe is the car isn't mapped so it's sitting on wastegate pressure just now, don't want to get it mapped then it maxes out at say 400hp when say for talking sakes 450hp may be achievable with something as simple as a bigger TB, basically I don't want to be totally limited by just a TB or inlet mani as I know that the majority of my set up should be good for more. The plan is if I do upgrade it over winter it will get quite a big makeover but for now I'd like to have everything on almost a level playing field and I'm unsure if the inlet mani and TB are going to be a drastic weakness
If it was only slightly limiting then I'd just leave it til winter

That's what I've read but it's all hear say by the looks of it so looking for solid advice from someone who has had results close to these figures
Not so Good but I hope it's nothing too bad and you get better soon.
I am running 470+ bhp with a standard throttle body and inlet manifold on my high boost setting , only thing restricting more power is the A/R on the turbo, I would just get the car mapped as it is, you may well be happy with the results, failing that go the next step up but be prepared to spend a few $$

Only time will tell, whatever it is I've just got to deal with it and continue on my journey in life!
That's good to know, so if the next thing for you would have been the turbo then that tells me there is scope for more power hopefully in the stock Inlet and TB

Positive thoughts, worth their weight in Gold, keep that chin up dude, thinking of you and hoping it's nothing that can't be fixed
Have a look through these posts, Chris had around 635 bhp but kept some things standard, you have the time so read some of his posts to see if it gives you any pointers http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/garage.php ... cle&CID=93
That's an awesome car he had by the looks of it, thanks for that!
Just dug through a few past posts and I see that V8Killer's TTE mr2 had a stock manifold with 75mm TB at 720hp
That kind of puts it to rest I suppose
