Mr2 Ben eccentric rod guides - am i doing something wrong??

I am currently fitting these rod guides on my tbar

but they are considerably shorter than the old original toyota ones. I see the guides have little clips but these don't seem to be effective as the guide is just resting in there and falls out?

People online talk about putting a small screw in (for which i can see the hole) but as these new guides are shallow the screw would have no impact on it anyway?

Do they just rest in there and hope the plastic covering holds them in?

I have only used the eccentric guides that fit on the t-bar and use a screw to hold them in place and have to say they have worked well and stopped leaks for me.

I've not used the ones MR2 Ben offers, but have fitted some I bought through a different ebay seller which look pretty much the same, and didn't have any issues fitting them

ah, i feel slightly foolish then...

I am trying to fit these ones in the t-bar itself? do the ones from mr2 ben fit in the roof lining then not in the tbar?

just went out and fitted these ones into the roof pillars in 2 minutes and they seem to pull it tighter as expected.

Don't feel too bad. Toyota do an eccentric guide for the roof panel and you can turn it to adjust the pull in. That is according to the bgb

I assumed these from mr2 Ben were those as I didn't think Toyota would produce a factory part which masks a problem!

Is one proven better than the other? Or do they both try and do the same job?

But as I mentioned, I was told the Toyota ones I used were originally intended for the MK1. I don't know if that's true, or whether they are still available from MrT. But the items offered by MR2 Ben look pretty much the same as the Toyota ones I have.

Both types are going to try to do the same job, pull the tbars down tighter onto worn rubber seals to hopeful stop them leaking. I've no idea which works best.

To be fair to MrT, these cars are up to 26 years old now, and you can't expect rubber seals to last for ever. The real solution is of course to change them. It's just they ain't cheap, so a lot of us look for cheaper alternative ways to put buying new seals off a bit longer

But I know sooner rather than later I'm going to have to bite the bullet.

Got to love forums the knowledge around is mind boggling!

well, I haven't had any serious rain to test them yet but they are certainly bringing the t-bars down tighter and as an added bonus most of the little annoying rattles the t-bars had have gone too!

So i'll be winning even if i do get dripped on
