[Mk2] [Generic] Wheel Studs

Post by connorb96 »

Hi guys,

I'm after a set of extended wheel studs for the FRONT wheels on my MR2, ideally 10-15mm longer, really hoping someone on here knows the best place to get them?

If I'm correct I think I need M12 x 1.5 with a Spline of 12.4?
Also what is the length of the standard ones?
Thanks
Connor

Give epic motor spares a call. Sam will sort you out. I think she can gat 2 different lengths. One is standard + 13mm.
Epic
Oadby
Leicester

Just goGoogle em

Edit. I did have to tickle the splines with a file to fit but only a little. If you have vernier you can measure the ones you take out and the new ones and that will tell you how much tickling they need.

I've bought a few different sets of studs for mine, including a set from fensport and none of them fit without either modifying the actual studs or slightly opening up the holes in the drive flange.

The only ones on the market that actually fit properly and have the correct spline pattern are the ARP studs, they're pricey at £40ish a pack of 5 but I suppose you get what you pay for - in fact I've just bought 10 to do the front of my car

The ones I got from epic are good quality but as I said just need something like 0.4 mm tickling off the splines. I actually managed to fit 8 on the front without but it was hard work and I managed to snap a couple before I realised if I took off half a mil they would go in easier. The two I snapped did so using a long bar to wind em in with all my weight so they are not made of cheese :-)
I pointed another member in the direction of epic and they sorted him out and he was happy. Just can't remember who it was.

As for the lengths you can get standard or +13mm or + 22mm iirc.
Price wise they are £1.50 each.

Thanks, ill give them a call first thing in the morning :)
The only thing is my mechanic is going to be replacing them so what exactly should I tell him he needs to file down?

Also anyone had any off MR2 ben? He quoted me £55.44 for 10x extended studs with the 5mm spacers I'm after

Here are pics of the standard stud next to a +13mm stud (one i bought from epic)
You can see where the verniers are on the splines. That is where it needs tickling by 0.2mm which is essentially just taking the tips off the splines.
Your mechanic may be tempted to just windy gun them in but chances are he will shear at least 1 (ask me how I know #-o ). I know 0.2mm doesn't sound much but in tolerance terms it make all the difference.

Yes I fitted these to all four corners. I have also read threads referring to different sizes but my rev 1 had same size all round.
May be different for different revs or abs cars but at epic their book only listed one size standard for all years.

You've peaked my interest now so I'm gonna go onto toyo and cross check part numbers

Just checked part numbers on toyodiy.com and they are the same for the front and rear through all years 89-99 sw20.

Interestingly enough it also lists as the same studs for the mk3 99-2005.

Part number 90942-02049
12/1989-07/1999 TOYOTA MR2 SW20 41-02: REAR AXLE SHAFT & HUB
