Current Drain Car Alarm

Post by tmwsccsh »

Hi all,

I have decided I think I need to fit an alarm of some kind to the MR2.

Not interested in anything too flashy.

I seem to recall years ago having an alarm on another car that simply connected to the battery and if it detected a current drain (so the door was opened and the interior light came on, for example) it would go off. That's the sort of thing I am after - simple but effective.

I've had a look around the usual suspect places (fleabay etc.) but can't seem to find anything this easy. Not interested in syncing to central locking and things like that, just want a simple thing to alert.

Maplin used to do one until about 6 months ago that would have been perfect but not any more, alas.

Anyone know if these still exist and, if so, where I can get one from?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Quick google for you found this

But tbh you can get a Cat1 for not much more these days.

Hi,

I found that one but if you look to the right-hand side it says Discontinued, alas.

Scamazon also sold that one but again, no longer available.

Thanks for looking though.

Yes your right sorry browsing on phone.

I found this but seems way over priced when you can get a cat1 alarm for £50-80 from the likes of Clifford etc.

Also search sparkrite SR90 on ebay seems someone is selling old stock few more wires but still a easy fit.

Its actually very easy to build your own.

Yes, saw that one too - completely over priced to be honest.

I may have found one on Gumtree - will contact the seller tomorrow (as it's text only and now almost 10:45pm) and get some more info from them.
