mk1 total body respray cost

Post by ppmr2 »

hi all :D

just wondering what members consider an ok price for a total body respray. :?:

i recently had a quote for £1,500 although this does include a little bit of rust treatment too, mainly on the body seam below the rear bumper, and a small spot at the base of the rear window on one corner.

they need car for a couple of weeks too.

is this good or bad ? :-k

thanks ppmr2

Depends who you know and what you do to help.

£750 upto £2000 isn't uncommon.

I would've said not bad to very good, but it depends on how much rust treatment is needed. Get that rust underneath the rear window sorted quickly though, it rusts quick as I found out!

£1500 is a good price.
Does the price include stripping of parts too? i doubt it but you never know.
Single colours and non metallic colours are a bit cheaper (cheaper paint) so that can bring the cost down a bit.

Your car is a very nice colour indeed. Are you having the same colour but just resprayed?

it's a very good price I think......can I ask where you went for that.

stevenb and crazylegs

stevenb yep same colour i dont know if i can say who on the forum but they advertise in the mk1 club mag.
also if you are going to the santa pod drag meet tomorow sun 25th you could see it there ?

crazylegs yep i have seen their work on a club members car also visited them and seen photos they have taken during the process of repairing and respraying mk1s.

i quess if they want the car for a couple of weeks they must take their time in a good way. 8)

Sounds a good price to me.
If they do a really good job let me know as i need some work done on mine soon, mainly boot and bonnet but might be worth me having the whole car done for that money!

Sounds a great price but what are you going to get!
Full strip down is expensive,so i would say it might be a bit of a bodge! but depends what you are after!
If your happy with it go for it!

when it comes to this sort of thing you get what you pay for.

for £400 its not going to be brilliant.

Out of £400 the best part is going to be the paint - probably nigh on £300
That doesn't leave a lot for prep, let alone restoration.
If you're going to do the job, do it properly.
It's worth it.

i dont know if its just more expensive in different parts of the country or not, but £4-600 is the going rate around where i live. I've been to 10 places and they've all said the same price.

Heck, toyota quoted me £900 for a full stripdown and the car to be paint dipped in their center

Toyota @ £900 for full strip and dip! No way!!!!

I'm also looking for costs ready for a future respray. I'm a fuzzy sod when it comes to paint so I'll want it done right and done well.

I started my search to a paint shop today in Newark, just waiting for the quote back but I got the impression that he wasn't really interested so I think he'll deliberately price himself out.

So what would I get for £1000 - £1500?

Any recommendations in the East Midlands area?

Jay.
