Thermostats

Post by mr299ron »

Hi guys,

I have a question about thermostats.

I believe my thermostat has started sticking open from startup, as the car takes so much longer to heat up and on my commute to work (19miles) and it doesn't reach optimal temperature.

If it is the thermostat, would the following be okay from eurocarparts?

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Toyot ... f55&000325

I'm aware these are probably shoddy, but has anyone actually used them? The reason they appeal to me is because I can have them delivered by tomorrow and it can be fitted over the weekend. Otherwise, I have to wait.

Let me know your thoughts.

On a side note, this started happening after driving home, I saw two lights appear. The hot cat light, and something is wrong with the cooling fan/(system?) light. The fan works, so I'm guessing it has sensed the thermostat going?

Thanks for your time if you choose to reply.

Cheers

I always use this as a rule of thumbs, part that are hard to get to must be replace with OEM. Better in the long run.

Turns out the alternator/something to do with the alternator died.

My car died on the way home after seeing the "hot cat" and the "engine temp coolant fan" appear and the car would not turn over. Could only hear ticking from the relays(?) The RAC man thankfully let me take his booster pack for the drive home so the battery would hold charge, so props to RAC!

Going to spray some wd40/alcohol type spray product on the alternator plug which'll clear the possible corrosion (connectors looked whiteish) to see if that's the issue. Will also run a volt meter to see if the connectors give off a 12+ve reading so I can determine whether the the wiring harness or the alternator is the issue.

Anyone had this experience? Please let me know, because I'm praying it's not the alternator!

Cheers

When my alternator went it gave me some funny warning light combinations that weren't problems. But battery light was showing too.

That's what's interesting. The battery light works, but doesn't come on when the car is on..

Nevermind..

Tested the 3 pins on the connector from the fuse box to the alternator. All three wires showed 12v.

Alternator is shagged.
