[Mk2] [Turbo] Ebay vs TRD Exhaust

Post by gnzyza »

Ebay exhaust vs TRD which I believe is the same as stock with less baffles.

Which would be best in terms of flow on a stockish engine up to 300bhp.

There will be little difference between the two at those power levels, the ebay is probably a better flowing exhaust, the TRD better quality.
Personally I would go for the one that looked best on my car :-k

I would go with the TRD if i had to choose one of them. The ebay specials need replaced after 6 months. I gave my last one away it was in such a state!

Choose one you like that's of a bit better quality, as for flow rate the ebay ones are basically pipes with no real restriction (i've read a few times on here about them causing boost creep) they are quite boomy but they actually sound ok from outside the car.

It's frustrating because I love that look and as said they sound not too bad, Just a real let down in terms of quality. Actually maybe durability or longevity would be more accurate!

You can get one that has the durability and build quality - it's called an HKS Super Dragger, or a Phoenix Power Departure II :thumleft:

Both of those are a little harder to find though, and a lot more expensive.

Thanks they do look good, but like you said hard to find.

So far on the list we have Berk , PP dep2, HKS super dragger.

Exhaust is not top of my priorities atm but these will likely have to be sourced used or overseas as with a few other parts. I'd rather have all the bits ready for when the engine goes back in. :thumleft:

The berk is my personal fave in terms of look and sound I have a brand new one waiting to go on. GTS Chris stocked them but he now retired according to his website :(

I wonder if the banned trader has them ?

how much are they mate?

edit: not listed on website , might give him a call. He seems to stock the CP pistons at the cheapest price.

I had a HKS Silent Hi Power on my Altezza and really liked it. Really like the Fujitsubo Legalis R on the N/A.

I'd buy the newest Jap brand one you can get a hold of or get one imported. I got someone to buy my HKS from Up Garage and post it to me.

Nope, i'd be hanging onto the TRD as long as the baffles are still in good nick. Dunno why youd want to replace one with a crapspeed of all things.

Every japspeed i've heard sounds like xxxx and also look shoddily built.

Stuff you can get new for these cars is dwindling now they are older. From japan you can still buy Fujitsubo Legalis R (quiet and free flowing) RM01 (louder single exit but very free flowing. HKS HiPower (fairly quiet but only 2.5inch) also the Apexi single exit GT or N1 I forget, I had one but didnt like the sound compared to fujitsubo.

could you get an exhaust.. "re baffled" by an exhaust repair place, for argument's sake?

You could, but it would be very expensive, and you'd have 'brand name' exhaust that's been chopped open, repaired, and welded up again so it will probably hurt its value.

You're better off going to a good custom place and getting a system made to your specification.
