the shop messed up my starter now car wont start

Post by tonym »

i dropped off the starter on my car on sunday took it into the shop on monday they rebuilt the inside new contacts drive etc got it back home later that afternoon and hooked it all back up fitted the battery back and it sparked like crazy and something smelt a little bit at the engine end of the car after a few phone calls and messing about turns out the bracket to bolt the postive cable to the starter had been bolted the starter casing instead of its original position they assumed it had 2 terminals a ground and a positive a different guy put it back together and someone else stripped it so anyway took the bracket off put it where it is supposed to be and tested the starter and it still works checked the ignition cable to it all works fine still cant start the car checked all the fuses front and back no such luck i got the car towed so i could bump start it got it driving like a bag of crap due to the dead battery from all the tries of starting

so i took the battery in charged it to 13.5v before trying again the dash is now lighting up constantly with engine light oil light handbrake light without a key in and still wont start

any suggestions please

Maybe try checking these big fuses that sometime blow.

turns out when the prats from the starter shop put the positive bracket in the wrong place and it shorted my car i checked absolutely every fuse in the car frunk footwell and engine bay all with a digital meter and nothing checked voltage to the starter through the cable same with the alternator and as i was doing the last check i was told to do by peter gidden (massive massive help great guy) my wife was mouching around in the engine bay and found a cable on the drivers side near the top of the engine had exploded on a connection which turned out to be a earth cable so i held it back together and car started first time problem solved so i replaced the cable for new and took it on a big drive sweet now never skipped a beat
