Repair or replace buckled wheel?

Post by Ginjaninja92 »

Hello forum dwellers,

I got a set of alloys refurbished this year. They're 15 inch, relatively light and I really like them! But when the wheel shop put the tyre's on we discovered one was badly buckled.
I've been driving on it since while I decide what to do, thankfully its on the back so you can't feel it unless you're substantially over 70mph.

The question is, does anyone have experience of having buckled wheels repaired? Rough prices? etc.

If repair isn't an option, does anyone know what these wheels are? I've looked into them briefly but can't find anything. They had white centre's originally.

Thanks all.

Depending how buckled they are you can get them repaired. Never as strong as they oringally were so mind the potholes but finding another replacement will be tough....!

Yeah I read that elsewhere, do you know how drastically it affects the strength of the wheel?

I know I'll struggle to find them, there's not really any markings on them. There's a "T's" on the front centre, and a "made in japan" stamp on the back of the centre, but that's about it.

Thanks for the reply

To be honest as long as you don't smash them about down an old farm track you should be fine. I'd rather a buckle than a crack :thumleft:

I've used these guys several times:

Did a great job, not expensive and he does work for various rally teams so knows his stuff - proper old school engineering shop.

He also rallies a Boxster....!

They look rather like Gab Sports. Rota make a copy called the GT3.

If they are indeed original Gab Sports then it's worth saving them, especially if they are in the rarer 6.5/7.5J staggered setup!

Edit: on closer inspection, I don't think they are. Very similar though. Are there no identifying casting marks on the back of them at all?

Thanks for the replies, good to know roughly what I should pay. And I'll shoot them an e-mail Jake thanks.

Gazza, I've seen someone else post about the Gab sports on here. They are similar.
There's not much stamped on these, here's a photo.
