Week off so getting a few jobs done, leccy mirrors no info

Post by masterbateson »

Getting a few jobs done this week as week off.

Anyhoo I currently have the door card off and am trying to fix/improve the rattly window.

Found that someone has removed the felt pad thingys that wear down completely on the outside sealing trim  #-o so trying to bodge up a repair for that.

But as I have the mirror assembly off as well would be good if I can get my mirrors working.
Currently they fold, but that's it, cant get any adjustment of the mirror via the little touch pad doofrey.

Any ideas?

Other than that I have so far, fixed my boost leak/vacuum leak, fixed sticking pas calliper and replaced pads, changed wheels, repaired ciggy lighter, fixed wonky centre air vents, fixed loose gear shift gaytor, removed horrible rear window material mesh stuff (can now see out of back window)
Adjusted handbrake and a load of other things I cant think of at the mo.
Off for another bout of fixing, bodging and spragging, but hopefully mainly just fixing

This is slightly weird, when I had the mirror off and resting on drivers floor but connected and with the controls connected but just loose the mirrors by and large worked.

passengers moved all ways, drivers just in and out, but when I put mirror back in place door card on and controls back in place, both mirrors then don't work :?

Bit mad/odd :?: :-k Maybe one of the wires has a small break and makes contact when out/straight but breaks when everything returned to its resting place?

Or maybe one of the connectors is a bit moody and works when out but not when controls are put back.

Anyone know an easy way to get mirrors out of their casings? and the important bit being intact and with no broken tabs.
And anyone pulled a motor apart/repaired?

Sounds like a wiring break/dodgy connection, this guide is for retro fitting folding mirrors but goes into splitting the mirror down

http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/know-your-2-know ... bartid=223

get it apart and test the drive motor using a 12v supply.

Or if you have a power probe or something similar just wire 12v to the correct pins on the multiplug to test the window motors and go from there, you may not even need to take them apart (i.e the fault is elsewhere in the car loom).

That guides great :thumleft: you can see the clips that hold the mirror on easily.

I had the mirror off yesterday and had the glass angled out at the bottom but because i was worried about damaging the clips because i couldnt see what type they were, I didnt apply much pressure/force it to try and remove the glass.

Now i know that i can just pull on the glass with out fear of damaging anything, it will make things a lot easier  well at least as far as removing the glass goes  .

Been meaning to report back, but xmas nonsense has kept me busy, be glad when its all over, Bah humbug!

Turned out to be a load of bad connections on the plug that goes to the mirror adjustment doo dah joypad thing.

Got a couple of pics on bberry will try and pop on later.

The barbs that usually hold the terminals in these plugs were all knackered, so i had to do a bit of creative engineering
