Trouble Selecting Gears (linkage bushes??)

Post by MR2 Livvy »

This may be a little long winded but bear with me!

1993 Mk2 Rev2 SW20 e153 transmission (as the amercians call it)

2 weeks ago I couldn't get reverse, I could only access 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th with a bit of effort. So we replaced the selector cable bushes with ball bearings...easy win!! all gears back 8)

Friday can only get 3rd and 4th all other gears will not select. I can move the knob in the cabin into the positions for gears but it only ever selects 3 or 4th (up or down essentially)

So i'm thinking the square brass bush thing?? shown here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T65f5YxG4ak

My questions
1. Whats this part called (about 1.5cm squared brass bush)
2. Am I barking up the right tree

I've read you can rotate it 90deg to get the unworn sides, but if I have to do that I may as well replace with new.

Any help appreciated

Gear Selection

Think the brass bush thing might be phosphor bronze. Turn it around and try perhaps?
