Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
Just bought new reaer ARB poly bushes to match the front recently fitted, heard horror storie abou fiting these well founded?
Also bought front and rear camber bolts for the front and back, how and in what poistition do these fit?
Pics would be a big help if possible?
Not sure about the bushes but camber bolts are simple enough:
Remove top of the two bolts holding hub onto strut.
Loosen the bottom of the two bolts.
Replace the top with camber bolt, making sure to seat the little lug on the washer INSIDE the mounting hole - it'll take a bit of wiggling the hub and strut.
Turn the tab on the washer towards the inside of the car if you want negative camber, towards you if positive.
Thread on the nut just until it lightly catches on the strut ie. not tight.
Making sure the tab doesn't spin, turn the head of the camber bolt while watching the hub tilt to desired angle. At max. camber it'll pause and then start to tilt the other way. Don't hold the nut while you're rotating the head, just rotate the head.
Tighten the camber bolt nut to instructed torque, making sure that the head of the bolt and tab remain in the position you've set them in. Over-torquing camber bolts kills them
Tighten the bottom Toyota bolt back up to recommended torque.
Probably a good idea to have your alignment adjusted afterwards too as you'll probably end up with slightly varying results all round.
At least that's what I did having watched a few tutorials on Youtube The camber bolts made a noticeable improvement to my handling
Make sure you ARB bushes are the right diameter.
But, drop the subframe (3 bolts in middle for engine mount + 4 bolts on either end which are huge, don't undo these all the way.)
It's then 1 12/13mm nut and 1 12/13mm bolt holding the arb mounting bracket in place.
Take this off, take your old bush off, grease your new bush with lithium grease or special moly based grease. put new bush on.
Reverse order to fit
Hopefully the captive nuts on the subframe are ok. Mine were knackered due to the previous owner sticking the wrong thread bolt in and pulled out all the threads. Subframe out, drill nuts out, weld new nuts to thick washers then weld into place. Job done.
