No, should use de-ionised (battery top up) water as it has less contaminants in it.

If you live in a hard water area you don't really want to be firing calcium deposits into your engine... or giving the jets any reason to clog up.

Okay good point. I'm guessing that's everyone as the entire UK is a hard water area.

Also can you just put in windscreen washer fluid instead of pure methanol? Surely if it's mapped on that and you continue to use the same stuff its fine?

AFAIK, there are soft water areas in the UK. I've never lived in one though...

lots of washer fluids are pretty much 50/50 wather meth with a little dash of inert dye and perfume. I remember reading somewhere that the "boost juice" sold by a well known water injection place was re bottled screenwash.

Yep this true of a few manufactures, you get nice smelling exhaust gasses :lol: .. I used ro (reverse osmosis) water and meth 50/50 mix.

Tap water is not all that pure and will clog the jet =;

I get the deionised water at halfords

For meth. Not all washer fluid has meth, and all of it has differing percentages. So you need to be sure of the ingredients.

I believe it's one of the VW washer fluids contains near 50/50 mix.

Correct - parts of Wales, Cornwall, Devon, Cumbria, Yorkshire, and pretty much all of Scotland have soft water. Pretty much all of the south / central / east of the country has hard water, so therefore most of the population has it.
