Project Mu Calipers - which pads to use?

Post by CalMac »

My Rev 3 turbo came fitted with Project Mu front calipers - the pads are looking a bit low. Anyone know if I can just use standard MR2 Carbotech AX6 pads or will I need to track down some Project Mu pads?

I doubt they will be the same pad type as the standard fronts.

If you can find out what type of project mu caliper it is then maybe you could find out which pad type it takes

Finally getting around to this now - anybody able to help? Basically are there any other pads which are of close size which could be adapted to fit?

Still using standard 276x30mm front discs.

From looking at the link posted above (page 9) I appear to have Hyper Calipers using the 4 pot M/L pads - either HC401-15 or HC401-17. Not a clue how thick the pads were initially but probably safest to go for the thinner of the two if there's a choice.

I've sent an email to Godspeed as they seem pretty hot on this stuff but surely somebody has had these calipers before?!

If you dont fancy buying a set of project mu pads, you might want to give carbotech a call direct

http://www.carbotech-europe.com/

When I was looking for a set of xp8s for my wms brakes I called them and they told me that they could cut a set of pads for me if needed.

If you can verify what exact pad type you have they should be able to help, they were pretty decent on the phone when I spoke to em! :thumleft:

Not that I don't want the Project Mu pads - just can't find them at all! The only replacement pads are designed for standard calipers and these calipers are probably outdated now so unlikely that the pads are still available

I'll give Carbotech a call though, thanks :thumleft:

Apparently this company is the uk distributor for project mu
http://www.hendyeshop.co.uk/aftermarket-pads-4317-c.asp

Might be worth asking them? There is a pad that kinda looks like your one but not exactly lol.

Usualy aftermarket calipers will use a fairly standard size pad so it may be simmilar to another manufacturers.

Are there any markings on the calipers apart from project mu ones?

Is there not a sort of generic pad that you can have cut to fit?

They will be a 'standard' brake pad style, for aftermarket/racing calipers. Like Brembo/AP Racing/KSport use. I expect the distributors listed above would be able to tell you what you need to be using.

Having spoken to Ian at Carbotech they're an unusual size (of course they had to be )

I'll be sending them off to Carbotech to be re-surfaced with AX6 pad material at some point, unfortunately will take about a month :( £150 though, not bad imo

Hendy Performance are apparently waiting on a reply from PMU Japan to see if they're still stocked, and I never heard back from Godspeed after calling and emailing.
