Speaker upgrade advice

Hi guys one of the side speakers has blown in my rev 2 turbo and instead of replacing with an original i was thinking of replacing the speakers with more powerful ones.

So i was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions as what to get, and if there is much modifying of the fixing points required. Im not looking to blow out my ear drums or anything, just to have something nicer sounding than the original speakers!

Some half decent 6.5 inch components on mdf spacer rings, you need to cut a little bit of plastic from the inside of the door card too 2 mins with a stanley knife.

I replaced mine with some infinity reference (oversized) with spacers - I personally wouldn't do this again as I had to cut into the doorcard quite a bit to get it to fit.

Normal 6.5's will fit with MDF adapters. The only cutting you need to do is the thin plastic bit that creates a duct to the stock speaker. This is completely non structural, and not visible when the door card is mounted. More extensive modification may be required for oversized (6.75") speakers, or speakers with a particularly large mounting depth.

For best results, I'd recommend getting a small amp to power them. Not much point getting nice component speakers and then running them off the crap head unit built in amp!

13cm speakers are generally sized to fit most makes of cars to replace oem speakers so usually no need to cut bigger holes in door cards to fit them or use spacers.

I guess it also depends how loud you want the sound before the speakers deliver their best performance. Remember it is a small space inside an mr2.

I have 13cm Alpine components and they are loud enough to deafen me for the sound as I like it (without distortion) so have to turn the volume down between my fave tracks or while talking with the passenger.
I would like the same (or better) sound quality when not as loud.
