205/55/15 rear's

With fewer and fewer tyres now available in the proper 225/50/15, i'm strongly considering changing to 205/55's.

Reason for that size is i could then get uniroyal rainsport 3's which i just fitted up front and am amazed by (mega hard to lock up even in heaviest of rain, no light steering at speeds anymore)! I reckon even giving away 20mm of rubber width they'd still have more grip overall than nankangs!

Camskill do Toyo T1R in 225/50/15.

Rather than put skinny tyres on the back, I'd either buy the correct size, or buy some 16s/17s....

Dont, it will drive like crap.

I used 205s on the rear once when I had a puncture to drive to a tyre place and it felt terrible compared to a propper staggered setup.

This is part of the reason I made the jump to 16s. Same widths but lower profile and bigger rim. My skyline wheels have got 205/45/16 on the front and 225/45/16 rear.

(I ran 205/50/15s on the front of my standard wheels)

Only E rated for wet....which is where i want my grip. Uniroyals are A.

Don't like non standard wheels, so 16/17's aren't happening!

I still got fair tyre life left so it won't be happening soon....just starting to weigh up options.

Couldn't you just use 45 profiles? I doubt there will be much of a difference in real world terms.

Alternatively is it possible to get hold of 235/45 or 235/50 more easily?

Failing that, just ignore everybody's advice and fit 205's on the rear

Also T1R Proxes really aren't THAT bad in the wet, dry performance is awesome for the money - not sure I'd put them on an MR2 though

I was a bit concerned about the E rating on Toyos but having been caught out by standing water & torrential rain at *cough* 70mph on the motorway I'm not worried about it anymore.

don't think those sizes exist (have only glanced at camskill's list though), same with anything 215 width.

Sooner or later we will most likely have no choice but to go for a different size!

Have used toyo's before, and they're ok, but compared to the front end grip i'm getting from the uni's they're no where close....so putting on rears would cause an unbalance anyway.

I never had problems with T1-Rs in the wet - I just changed my driving to suit the conditions

I agree, they're not brilliant but I wouldn't say they spoiled things too much. I'd rather sort of know where the wet limits are in a 2 rather than having a super-grippy wet weather tyre made for more modern cars that will grip until it just lets go
