Also, one of the(temp?)sensors closest to the rear of the car on the metal coolant neck has snapped off its connection.
Would that stop the car starting?

You need to replace the temp senser and also recheck your timing belt, you may have the timing 180 deg out

You could also quickly check for spark and check fuel is being injected(wet plugs)
