[Mk2] [Turbo] leak from thermostat housing

Post by DJ_88 »

Hey I have a newly converted Rev 3 N/A to Rev 3 turbo and I noticed the thermostat housing leaking, only noticed it as when I stopped some white smoke in the passenger side mirror

I looked in the bay and noticed the coolant coming out of the housing and dripping down onto the hot engine parts! and the coolant bottle near enough empty!

After the engine cooled I opened the rad cap and there was coolant in there.

The thermostat seemed to be working fine not erratic.

Question is if I can get away with replacing the o-ring 64mm I think or housing gasket? and then slowly filling the coolant bottle back up?

I am no mechanic but I can learn. the company who did the conversion are well reputable but a bit far away.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Yes that should sort it mate.

The rubber ring can some times gets caught when tightening up so check that first, might be a nice simple fix :thumleft:

rubber oring on the thermostat either not there or its old/worn.

removing that housing you will likely loose like 3+ltrs of coolant!

so be sure you have enough to top up, and ideally youll want to bleed the system afterwards.
