Kouki tail light cracking?

Is this a common thing on these tail lights? I just looked at mine today thinking that they looked a bit dull and could use a good polish up. Upon closer inspection they were full of micro cracks right on both the red parts. Anyone else had this problem?

I can't work out if someone has had a go at doing something to them previously, either way they certainly let the car down.

That looks to me like tint or lacquer? Certainly like they've got a coating of something on them.

I agree from the photo that looks more like a peeling surface coating. Worth trying a mild abrasive like tooth paste or t-cut on a small area to see if it will polish off. Worked wonders on my lights.

I did try a small amount when I first spotted but to no avail. Going to try my headlight repair kit on it and see what happens.
