MR2 drag strip day thanks

Post by Mark Edwards »

Big thanks to the very sexy Jo =P~ for organising a well run event. Shame about the weather and the queues but you can't have it all. From 10am til 4pm i only got 2 runs in, stupid why they let that many people sign on when it's obvious there's too many cars, all about the money i guess.

Yeah, thanks Jo for organising a fantastic day!

Sorry I dissapeared without saying goodbyes to everyone, but when the second bit of rain began, I thought it was all going to be over. I hope you all got at least two runs in.

Please post up the photos and times of those who did run.

Yeah yeah Whateva..................

Check my thread in the general section, gonna fit that TD06, rev3 gearbox and perhaps an uprated clutch in the coming months so maybe next year i'll do a little better........ maybe 8-[

Congrats on you time Mark, shame you didn't get more runs as i think given the chance you should certainly be in the 11's

I'd definately change to an uprated cluch if you're going to fit the TD06.

Hoping to get into the 11's, but i doubt i'll do it on this turbo, have to wait for the gt.

Jo has asked me to post on her behalf (and the MR2Mk1Club) to say thanks to everyone who turned up and made it a great event. It was a shame that we didn't get many runs but everyone seemed to have a good day, roll on next year! :D

Jo will post a proper thanks tomorrow at lunch time, unless she is being naughty tomorrow morning and sneaking onto the internet during works hours!

Sorry we couldn't make it in the end, Tom, did yours go up the strip?

Is Jo going to post the results?

Yes Alex, it did. BUT I only got one run during the whole day. And here's the irony. I wanted to do my first run without using any NOS. Simon turned up with his NOS powered Mk1b with an empty bottle!

So just before we had our runs, we had a mad panic changing fittings so that Si could use my NOS bottle.

But it so happened that we ended up lining up together!

Got a reasonable start and a good quick change into second. But I couldn't see Si and was looking over my shoulder when I tried to change into 3rd and missed the gear! :clown: Lost a load of momentum and Si closed me down but I flicked the V signs as he went by  . I got a better reaction time so it was a close thing at the finish, only 0.117s separated us!

Feeling better about the performance of the SC now then, if you were only beaten by a tenth after missing the gear?

Yes, I am :D . If I CBA (C= "can" in this case) I will plot it out and try and work out what time I should have done...

:? Who looks like a gargoyle? :?

Here's my results. It clearly shows exactly what happened. I was holding Si in first and second gear (lines are parallel) and then when I missed third gear (at 54mph) I lost a load of momentum: ](*,) Once I picked up momentum again the lines go back parallel.

I am in Red, Si is in blue.

Just a quick thank you to the organisers of yesterdays meeting at Santa Pod....thoroughly enjoyed the day, shame it was so busy and the rain didnt help, but an excellent day all the same.

Shame we didnt all get a few more runs in, but there is always next year :)

Quality day. Thanks to the organisers! Was my first run down a drag strip and loved it! Only got one run coz of the rain and it being so busy! I think they should have run the bikes on a different day. They were borrrrrrring. That way we woud have all had a few more runs at least.

Well impressed that my rev1 n/a managed 15.8 seconds at 87mph \:D/
