Which wiring harness? 97 Uk MK2

Hello,

I did a search on this forum and I found the following -

PC9-411 if active speakers & Jan 1994 to Apr 2000 (approx £35).

My car is a 97 MK2, so if thats correct I have active speakers (whatever that means) so I need a harness as I currently have a toyota stereo that costs £35? I ssume that would be some sort of toyota to ISO cable? - where can I get this item from?

Other probelm I got is under the single din toyota stereo I have a TOYOTA sticking out blanking plate. Its a horrid ugly thing but the fact that it sticks out leads me to believe that when I finally do fit the single din cd above it there might not be enough room for the stereo surround - any thoughts or am I woryying about nothing?

Check behind the passenger seat - if you see a speaker in the box there then yes, you need a pc9-411. If no speaker then you need a pc2-17-4.

Both can be found in Halfords or similar, although your best bet for getting the pc9-411 would be online to make a better saving.

I had the ugly Toyota blanking plate too, but now all is lovely:

I don't think the blanking plate would get in the way of the stereo surround, although I'm not 100% certain. Ditch it anyway, you can get a DIN Pocket from Mr T for around £15, or similar from Halfords (FP-11-01) for £30.

Thats fantastic - exactly what I wanted to know. Strangly I didnt think I could open the box behind the passenger seat?the one behind the driver seat is certainly openable... but I'll take a look.

So assuming that I am amplified then I think I will need the following -

PC9-406 £25 amplified lead(http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... /1634.html)

If I am not then I'll need a PC2-17-4 - Toyota ISO lead £10

one more thing.....I check my car and the box behind the passenger seat doesnt seem to open? does that mean I dont have an amp in there?

hence no amplified speakers...

If it's got a sub in it, then you don't have to open it as it's visible:




It will open, just needs a good tug

I sent you a Pm johnny but I just wanted to know how the new head unit fits in once the trim is taken out? do I need to bolt it to the old toyota bracket or do I use the cage that comes with the new headunit and shove it in the hole? then replcae the trim.......or is it obvious when you get started.

This link pretty much explains it all (ignore the mess of wires this guy had though, you'll be okay with your harness/adaptor):

Your new headunit will just screw into the old Toyota brackets that your old unit is attached to. I never used the cage that came with my Sony unit.
