Door window alignment problem

Post by tiff_lee »

Shortly after purchasing my MR2 I discovered the passenger window doesn't actually work properly (failed to check prior to purchase...), the window would go up on one side only and only half of the way, it would jam.

After some investigating I found the nut was missing/has been removed from the lifting mechanism at one end of the window

however with this connected the window still fails to go up all the way as it jams up still and seems way out of position within the door frame

I'm clearly missing something else here, any pointers?

I did have some images to insert but it seems i'm not allowed to which is real handy.

All the info on setting up the windows is in the BGB

I asked a local mechanic to sort mine out as I knew it was going to be a ball ache I watched him fight with that door for over 2 hours and still didn't get it right so I ended up sorting it out myself in a lot less time it just needs patience

So after a good hour of fiddling i've found the cause of the window jamming.

It appears the front runner part of the glass isn't actually inside the runner on the door but actually outside of it (towards the door outer skin), so as the window was approaching the top of its travels it was binding on the outside part of the guide.

This in conjunction with the missing bolt and the fact this window is the only one to have some tint on makes me think someone has actually replaced the glass but done a half assed job of it.
